KELLY CLARKSON SIGNS WORLDWIDE DEAL WITH ATLANTIC RECORDS; NEW MUSIC TO BE RELEASED IN 2017

Multi-Grammy winning singer/songwriter Kelly Clarkson has signed a long-term, worldwide deal with Atlantic Records it was announced today. Clarkson, who has sold over 25 million albums and 36 million singles worldwide since the launch of her recording career in 2002, is slated to release her first album for Atlantic in 2017. The album will draw from the inspiration of soul and R&B as the foundation of her endearing lyrics and powerhouse vocals.

Every day this week, Clarkson has been teasing her announcement by performing a classic song from the Atlantic catalog on Facebook Live, including Otis Redding’s “These Arms of Mine,” Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is,” Aretha Franklin’s “Giving Him Something He Can Feel,” and Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy”.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kelly Clarkson into the Atlantic family,” said Atlantic Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman and Atlantic Chairman/COO Julie Greenwald. “She is one of the greatest artists of our generation, a musical icon with an extraordinary, soul-inspired voice that has captivated millions of fans around the world. We are honored to be partnering with Kelly as she embarks on this exciting new phase of her record-breaking career.”

"After winning American Idol there was an arranged marriage that occurred that sometimes worked out and sometimes resulted in the hardest experiences of my life,” commented Kelly Clarkson. “As an artist, American Idol gave me something that was incredible, an audience and a platform before even releasing music. Although I am extremely thankful to the amazing people that I've had the chance to work with, I cannot describe the excitement of working with Julie Greenwald, Craig Kallman, and their team at Atlantic Records. The loyalty, innovation, and creativeness that Atlantic Records has been consistently bringing to the music industry is incredibly exciting for any artist to be a part of! We have already started creating a record that I have been wanting to make since I was a little girl, and a record that fans have been asking me to make for years. Here's to the future!"

It was also announced today that as a gift for her fans, not only will Clarkson release a live version video for “Tightrope” but she has put four fan-requested cover songs on her website (www.kellyclarksonlive.com) that are now available for instant download. Included are her unique takes on Coldplay’s “Fix You,” Radiohead’s “Creep,” Etta James’s “I’d Rather Go Blind,” and India Arie’s “Ready For Love.” In addition, moving forward fans can visit www.kellyclarksonlive.com on the last Friday of every month to have the opportunity to receive new and exclusive content.

Clarkson rose to fame as the winner of the first season of American Idol, followed by the release of her debut single, “A Moment Like This,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 and became the best-selling single of 2002 in the U.S. With the release of her multi-platinum, No. 1 debut album, Thankful, in 2003, she established herself as a bona fide superstar, going on to release a string of smash studio albums, including the RIAA 6X platinum Breakaway (2004), My December (2007), All I Ever Wanted (2009), Stronger (2011), Wrapped In Red (2013), and last year’s Piece By Piece, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Clarkson has scored 17 multi-platinum, platinum, and/or gold singles across the globe, among them “Miss Independent,” “Since U Been Gone,” “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” “Because Of You,” “Don’t You Wanna Stay” (with Jason Aldean), “My Life Would Suck Without You” (which holds the record for the biggest leap in a single week on the Billboard Hot 100, from No. 97 to No. 1), “Mr. Know It All,” “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You),” and “Heartbeat Song.”

In addition to her three Grammy Awards, Clarkson has won twelve Billboard Music Awards, four American Music Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music Awards, and two American Country Awards. She is the only artist to date to win the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album more than once. Alongside her musical career, Clarkson has ventured into television and film, including playing musical legend Brenda Lee on the NBC-TV series American Dreams. This fall, Clarkson will make her debut as an author with the publication of her children’s picture book, River Rose And The Magical Lullaby.

MAKE MUSIC PASADENA 2016 GETS WET AND WILD

Light drizzle didn't dampen the 9th Annual Make Music Pasadena last weekend.  An expected 50,000 were expected to show up to this free all day music fest held in 30 venues with 150 performances but judging by the crowds, it seemed like business as usual as fans came out to see their favorite bands and discover new ones as well.

The Old Pasadena Colorado Main Stage hosted a healthy mix of electric, pop, rock and new wave.  Australia's Atlas Genius headlined the festival with a bustling set and even got the crowds dancing and hopping up and down towards the end of their set while The Mowgli's pop-rock-folk added the sunshine this festival needed with their style of pop-rock. When they played, it's as though everyone forgot that Pasadena was experiencing rain throughout the day.

What makes Make Music Pasadena great is the many genres of music played throughout the many venues around downtown Pasadena such as psych-pop played by LA based James Supercave and electronica by Pr0files - both on the main stage.

Dead Ships, who recently was hand-picked to play this year's Coachella, brought  their indie garage sound to the main stage.  Named by music tastemakers as one of  LA's best live bands, Dead Ships, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Devlin McCluskey, drummer Christopher Spindelilus, and bassist Alex Moore proved that with their rousing performance on Pasadena's Main Stage. Dead Ships are readying the release of their debut studio album CITYCIDE which was produced by Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning and drops June 24th via the Nevado Music label.

L.A. Girlfriend post-punk electric homecoming complete with dancing cheerleaders brought out some edge and fun during this June gloom day.

The morning began with a wake up call in the form of Evol Walks at the Playhouse District Main Stage.  Like a starter gun, their hard rock was a great opening to the annual festival in downtown Pasadena while Papa's  indie-rock and singing-drummer Darren Weiss performed an intense and raucous show in front of a large crowd.

Over a the outdoor mall at the  Paseo Colorado Main Stage was Los Angeles locals The Dutch Party and The Fontaines - both performing some of my favorite sets of the day.  The Fontaines' vintage self-branded new-wop sound was my favorite find of the day. Fontaines, the  Los Angeles band made up of siblings Hank and Charlotte Fontaine was my favorite find of the day with their self-branded new-wop sound.

With the day's mostly silver, grey skies, Dutch Party seized the day with the sun-kissed, warm indie-pop to an otherwise willing crowd ready to dance and have fun.

My day ended at The Shoppes at STATS Stage right a few blocks south of the Main Stage where I got to relax to the soothing tunes of Zach + Bridget.  Performing under a soft glow amid a music crowd sipping wine with cheese, Zach and Bridget delivered a soft yet modern Americana style that's both refreshing and classic.  Not only did they perform, Zach + Bridget curated an all acoustic schedule at the STATS Stage where they invited friends such as The Americans, The Lemon Trees, Valley Queen, Laura Jean Anderson and Austin McCutchen to name a few.

NEW VIDEO: MØ's WANTS YOU TO CONNECT TO YOUR INNER STRENGTH IN "FINAL SONG"

MØ

MØ new summer hit "Final Song" has the potential to be the song of the summer.  She's no stranger to summer hits; working on last year's Major Lazer and DJ Snake's smash "Lean On."

‘Final Song’ is about reconnecting with your inner strength. With your inner glow, passion, spirit animal, whatever—the force that keeps us going and doing what we love," MØ says. "We all need to feel empowered from within to be the best version of ourself, but it’s not always easy and that’s what inspired me to write these lyrics. When you’re united with your inner glow you can beat the fears and fly towards your dreams."

SHURA

UK singer/songwriter Shura just released an '80s inspired track ahead of her July 8th release of her debut LP Nothing's Real.

"What's It Gonna Be" is a pop / dance track that is a flashback of the feathered hair, leg warmer-wearing 80's carefree years reminicent of Olivia Newton-John and Toni Basil but is made fresh with and modern and uplifting syths beats.

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE VISITS AUSTIN TEEN IN HOSPICE CARE

"Today we were privileged to witness the clear joy of a room full of teenagers singing with Florence Welch and guitarist Rob Ackroyd from Florence and The Machine who came to Hospice Austin's Christopher House to give a private concert to a teen who missed her concert last night due to her illness. The room was full; full of joy and warmth and love and life and singing. Thank you, Florence!" • #florenceandthemachine #florencewelch #florence #fatm #robertackroyd @florence @9billionnamesofgod

A photo posted by @flomwelch on May 21, 2016 at 2:57pm PDT
Wow. This is a great story and shows the power of music to lift hearts and spirits. Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, with the help of the staff at Hospice Austin, made a visit to the Hospice House to visit a 15 year-old teen who was unable to attend her concert at Austin360 Amphitheater the night before due to her illness.  The next day Welch, along with her guitarist Robert Ackroyd  surprised the teen with an acoustic performance in front of close friends and family singing "Dog Days Are Over" and "Shake It Out."

As written on the Austin Hospice Facebook page

"We have a patient who held long cherished tickets to see Florence and The Machine last night with her BFF. All week through set back after set back she asked if she would be able to go. We tried to entertain the idea and it felt so scary and overwhelming for the medical staff and her mother that finally I said no, and my heart broke again," said Hospice Austin's Christopher House Nurse Practitioner Christie Kramer.

"And then, through a remarkable team effort on the part of Christopher House and Hospice Austin Staff, we were able to make contact with Florence. My patient's mom was so nervous- will she really come? Is she here yet? She kept popping out of the room and checking. And Florence came. And her mom burst into tears of joy at the sight of her and Florence gave her a big hug. Florence walked around the corner to the patient's room -- stuffed to the gills with teen friends -- and there were shrieks and squeals and so much joyous music and singing and tears and tears and tears of grief and joy and hope and love and utter devastation and somehow simple kindness made everything better. Many thanks to my wonderful colleagues who made this happen and to Florence + The Machine for giving an amazing gift of kindness."

HINDS FINDS BREAKING UP HARD BUT "EASY" IN NEW VIDEO

HINDS

Spellbinding and calming melodies marks Hinds' new song "Easy" and accompanying video with tears soaked eyes.   The song describes the worst moment of a relationship when you love someone but the other person stops loving you eventually.   You can't help but self-destruct because you can't do anything to change it; that (in a sense) is the easy part.

"Easy" is off their album Leave Me Alone which dropped earlier this year.  Watch the video below which was directed by John Strong and produced by Kourtney Gleason.

THE WEEPIES' DEB TALAN PLANS SOLO PROJECT

Deb Talan, 1/2 of The Weepies is planning to record a solo album but don't fret. Talan is not leaving The Weepies. She just wants to return to her roots, to her beginnings after 10 years of touring, making records, starting a family and surviving cancer.  She's raising funds and asking for help via Kickstarter to record new and unreleased songs.

About this project
Deb Talan Lucky Girl

I’m making a solo record, pretty much back where I started: in a room alone, writing and singing. I've got a stash of songs that no one has heard and I want to send them out into the world.
I’ve been in the Weepies for more than 10 years. We've toured tens of thousands of miles, we made 6 albums, we sold about a million records, and while all that was happening Steve and I got married, we had three kids, moved to Iowa, I got stage 3 breast cancer, had treatment and recovered, and we kept working. It’s been a wonderful, terrible, full-joy-full-catastrophe kind of 10 years.
I feel different, and the same. My kids are out of babyhood, I’m healthy, and I want to reclaim something. Some sense of myself as my own person.
I'm still in the Weepies! But I also want to step out musically as who I am right now: a survivor, a songwriter, and a lucky girl.
With your help, I can bring these songs to life. I'm nervous. And I’m really excited.
Thanks so much for your support, and as always, for listening.

R&B/Soul Mayer Hawthorne & Alina Baraz [7/7], Indie Rock/Pop BØRNS & Porches [7/14], Classic '80s Psychedelic Furs & Day Wave [7/21], Reggae Proteje & The Indiggnation & Raging Fyah [7/28], Latin Natalia Lafourcade & Monsieur Periné [8/4], 90s Alt Save Ferris [8/25], Indie Rock Unknown Mortal Orchestra [9/1], Disco Ohio Players with artists for August 11 and 18 to be announced in mid-June.

Snapchat is collaborating with The Pier to bring a myriad of new experiences to THE TWILIGHT CONCERT SERIES, such as carnival-style activities and art installations, including one by FriendsWithYou. This expands upon the popular 2015 Snapchat booth, which included games such as "Grab-A-Ghost," "Whac-A-Boo," and "Bye Bye Ghost."

Additionally getting to THE TWILIGHT CONCERT SERIES this year will be easier than ever with the opening of the new Expo train line running from Union Station through West Los Angeles to Santa Monica, making travel to the venue a seamless experience. The city has become closer, enabling music fans easier access to THE TWILIGHT CONCERT SERIES for the first time ever on public rail. Beyond the rail line, Breeze (the City of Santa Monica's public bike share program), a variety of ride share services and public lots throughout Santa Monica, offer a choice of options for those planning to attend the series.

The Twilight Concert Series is a co-production of the Santa Monica Pier Corp. and RH&S Concerts.  2016 media partners include KCRW and Alt 98.7 (LA's Alternative).

TEGAN AND SARA PREMIERE "BOYFRIEND" VIDEO

Tegan and Sara just released their new video for "Boyfriend," off their upcoming album Love You to Death which drops June 3rd via Warner Bros. Records.   Parenthood's Sarah Ramos and designer Rachel Antonoff (sister of Bleachers' Jack Antonoff) both make cameos in the video which, like a lot of people out there in relationships, deals with commitments and often times keeping those close relationships a secret or on the DL.

"You treat me like your boyfriend
And trust me like a... like a very best friend
You kiss me like your boyfriend
You call me up like you want your best friend
You turn me on like you want your boyfriend
But I don't want to be your secret anymore"

Although it's titled "Boyfriend," the song could relate to both guys and girls.  Who hasn't dealt with being with someone and wanting to show the world how much you care about them but instead, they sort of want to keep it a secret for whatever reason.

Watch the video below.

Earlier this week, Tegan and Sara announced a 40-date North American headlining tour, kicking off September 9th in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and running through November 16th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (see below for full list of dates).  Tickets will go on sale this Friday, April 29 at 9am local time via http://teganandsara.com/shows/.
