Already a success in Scotland, Nina Nesbitt released her new EP on April 1st here stateside.   And based off that success and numerous critically acclaimed EP’s, Nina has amassed over 150,000 Twitter followers, 280,000 Facebook likes and nearly four million views on her YouTube channel.

While touring the U.S. earlier this year with stops at SXSW, Los Angeles and New York, Nina Nesbitt stopped at Popcrush to perform her song "Stay Out."

Currently, the Scottish singer/songwriter is set to play a string of music festivals including Glastonbury this weekend.

Check out the Popcrush performance below:

"Stay Out" by Nina Nesbitt

After countless of tour dates stretching across the United States and Europe, The Joy Formidable have finally found time for relaxation.

They've recorded a new song in their native Welsh tongue called "Yn Rhydiau'r Afon" which translates into In the "Fords of the River" and, based on the research I've been able to come up with (ie: google), it's a Welsh idiom meaning "on your death bed' or something of that nature.

That sort of explains the official music video showing the point-of-view of a camera peacefully floating downstream. Later at some point, the camera reaches rough waters and tips over, under water as Ritzy, Rihydian and Justin look helplessly on.

It's a tranquil melodic tune that swells towards the end with a soaring chorus.  The single is part of a new series of 7" vinyls where the group shares a double A side with another Welsh artists that they admire.  This first offering is called Aruthrol A with the single "Yn Rhydiau'r Afon" along with a song from Colorama.  It's on sale now and it's limited to only 500 copies so get 'em while you can.

Check out the video below. You can grab the vinyl right HERE.

Brody Dalle Diploid Love

Brody Dalle has a target at her back...literallly in this new video for "Don't Mess With Me." It's off her new debut solo album Diploid Love.  In the video, Brody is pelted with everything - from pills and bottles to roses and even cash but isn't phased nor hurt by any of it.  She's tough as nails. Her message?  "Attack me with everything you've got. It won't hurt me."

Diploid Love, is a throwback to the 90s era grunge rock which she helped shape as the frontwoman for the Distillers and Spinnerette.  At times, you feel like you've been listening to that classic cd that's been collecting dust on your shelf but then realize that Diploid Love is actually new and not taken from the 90s bin.  The best part of it? You can relive your high school days while listening to something vintage but still sound modern and refreshing.

Starting July 5th, Brody hits the road for select Queens of the Stone Age dates along with several headlining shows on the east coast:

Last night, ABC's Nightline  featured piece on Paramore highlighting their 10 years as a band and their rise to the top of the Billboard charts after the release of their newest album.  The problem with the piece?  Nightline focused the entire six-minute story on 25 year-old front-woman Hayley Williams' life which included her changing hairstyles  and her collabarations with  B.O.B. and producer Zedd.

Hayley embarrassingly took to Twitter last night to apologize saying:

"...Sort of makes me want to cry when whole interviews are chopped and edited to look like it was all me.....Literally makes me cringe.  You think I'd be used to it! Wish fans of our band who've stuck around so long coulda heard some of the great things the guys had to say...But anyways...last thing I want to sound is ungrateful. So I'm gonna stop after this: Paramore is a band."  - Hayley Williams @yelyahwilliams

Kitten's Chloe Chaidez

To call Kitten a pop band would be a disservice to them and their music.  It's far from pop.  Kitten has built their reputation as daring risk-takers, emerging as one of the most buzzed about bands in the music scene today as evidenced by  their dynamic stage presence and wall-to-wall sound of relentless waves of industrial and moody, synthesized post-punk.  They're led by the spark plug of a lead singer Chloe Chaidez and after five years, three EPs and non-stop touring with the likes of Paramore, Charli XCX and Joy Formidable, Kitten are finally releasing their highly-anticipated debut album June 24th via Elektra Records

Kitten's Chloe ChaidezAnd to celebrate the release of their self-titled debut record, Kitten played at The El Rey for their record release show to a packed house of loyal fans.  But for those simmering fans charged and waiting to explode, Chloe, dressed in a soft oriental gown, started off slow with the brooding "Why Wait" set to hypnotic beats.  It certainly set the mood. With saturated red and blue spotlights softly painted on mesmerized faces; the crowd seemingly knowing this was, in a sense, the calm before the storm. They didn't' have to wait long.

Chloe, soon enough, charged into "Japanese Eyes" off their 2012 Cut It Out EP and on cue, her loyal fans erupted in unison as El Rey's stage barrier, or lack there of, was there to keep the crowd at bay or keep Chloe contained (by the end of the night neither held true.)  It's as though Chloe has been harnessing this raw energy up until the curtains opened and, like a switch she turns on at will,  escapes in bouts of nervous energy.

With the crowd barely containing themselves, there was no turning back. Kitten continued the volcanic barrage with tracks off their new self-released album. Songs "Sensible" and "Like A Stranger" are lush, electro assaults layering driving drums with igniting choruses while "Cut It Out" and "I'll Be Your Girl" revel in soaring melodies laced with a seductive beat as Chloe's vocals barely rise above a tender whisper.  I'm sure many fans were jealous when Chloe plucked a lucky fan from the crowd, brought her onstage and serenaded her to the seductive tune of "I'll Be Your Girl."

But even though Kitten's raw and electrifying performance brought down the house, it was the more tender songs that hit the hardest.  There's an honesty revealed in Chloe's voice that can turn on a dime to confidence yet still sound delicate. Chloe, left alone onstage with only an acoustic guitar, performed "Apples and Cigarettes" and  "Kill The Light,"  effortlessly transforming herself from a commanding and booming onstage-presence to a vulnerable and fragile artist in one quick lighting cue.

KITTEN performs during their album release party at The El Rey.
photos by picksysticks
The high-octane "Kitten With A Whip," a mainstay towards the end of all Kitten shows (and surprisingly not on their debut album)  gave the biggest jolt to the sold-out crowd.  Chloe took to the side stage, greeted by fans with outstretched arms as she climbed the rafters and then stage-dived into the crowd below whom gently brought her back to the stage.  That's when all hell broke loose.  Fans stormed the stage, overtaking security and brought the party onstage to Kitten.  It was a fitting end to this special record release show. Certainly a roller-coaster ride from beginning to end, Kitten's ride continues when their debut album is released Tuesday, June 24th.  They'll be performing a much more toned downed set at Amoeba Hollywood that same day at 6pm for a free show and signing CDs afterwards.

El Rey setlist - June 21, 2014:  Why I Wait / Japanese Eyes / Sensible / Cut It Out / Like a Stranger / G# / Take My Breath Away (Berlin Cover) / I'll Be Your Girl / Apples and Cigarettes (acoustic) / Sex Drive / Chinatown / Cathedral / Kitten with a Whip /   Encore:  Kill The Light / Doubt / Sugar / Don't Dream It's Over (Crowded House cover)

Icona Pop

Fresh off supporting Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry on their tour, Icona Pop are continuing their world tour just as they release  their new song "Get Lost."  According to MTV, their new single was just released on the radio in their homeland of Sweden.  Check out the song below:

TheBroods just competed their US tour last month supporting their hit EP Bridges which they released February.  Now it looks as though they're hard at work readying their highly anticipated debut album as evidenced with the release of their new song "Mother & Father."

"Mother  & Father," the first official song off their new album, is an emotionally beautiful tune with slow, simmering melodies set to precise marching beats

The song deals with the feeling of being lost (in life and in love) and remembering the comforting and safe, nurturing environment of youth as lead singer Georgia Nott sings in her soft and delicate voice, "The nights are getting shorter / I don't know where to go / I am getting older and I'm starting to show."

Happy Hollows

Happy Hollows' is known fors their whirlwind of sound - raging beats and free-floating guitars that didn't stay within the lines. But like an impressionistic painting, the closer you looked (in their case, listened) the more everything seemed to fit  perfectly together.

Happy Hollows still boasts a larger-than-life sound.  The melodies are tighter with drummer Chris Hernandez seemingly back (he left the band briefly).  It looks like  he's returned, bringing along his focused and  precise beats that sound like it's coming from a drum machine.  Of course the gem that made Happy Hollows unique and fresh is guitarist Sarah Negahdari penetratingly, fierce vocals that seem to soar endlessly.

"Endless" is their newest video, off their newest LP Amethyst, and it has a way of making your inhibitions disappear and dance like nobody is watching.

Check out the video below.

The Wild Ones

Since rays of sunshine can't give hugs, Portland's The Wild Ones come pretty close with their warm and sunny melodies.  Sort of like electro-pop on decaf, you can't help but feel comforted and safe when you hear lead singer's Danielle Sullivan's soft and tranquil vocals.  And it's those elements that prompted TIME Magazine to name them a "Musical Act to Watch in 2014."

The Portland-based group just announced their summer tour dates (mostly on the east coast) in August with stops in New York City, Boston, DC and Chicago. The tour is to support their new album Keep It Safe which was released last year.  Stand out hits include "Golden Twin," "Paia" and "From Nothing" which you can watch the video below.

K.FLAY  / pic via Facebook
Right now I'm listening to K.Flay's highly anticipated new album Life As  A Dog which is streaming for free at Pandora Radio. Holy Sh*t!  This album is amazing.  K. Flay isn't your typical hip-hop artists. With pop-infused melodies that are both delicate and complex, K.Flay's songs are like a narcotic that gets you hooked from the very fist note.

She found her underground voice while pursuing a double major at Stanford University, releasing her mixtapes that showcased her honest lyrics and hypnotic beats that got the attention of Billboard, Rolling Stone, Spin and Vibe and also earned her the opportunity to share the stage with Passion Pit, 3Oh!3, Theophilu London and Icona Pop.  On Life As A Dog, K. Flay showcases her personal songs in a refreshing yet authentic way.

Now, the San Francisco-based artist is set to release her first full-length album (out July 24th) fully funded by her fans via Pledge Music after she left her label, RCA Records, to take control of her own future.  Her campaign only took six days to reach her goal and currently, she's on tour supporting Life As A Dog on the Vans Warped Tour.

Stream K.Flay’s Life As A Dog in its entirety now at before it drops on June 24th.

In "Disappointed," Chloe sings "You were attractive once...I liked you like you were...frankly I'm just disappointed,"  touching on themes of being true to yourself and trying to be someone you are not.

The video, shot at the home of Los Angeles' Derby Dolls, Chloe's song touches on themes of being true to yourself and trying not to be someone you are not.

"I spent the day of the shoot hanging out with the LA Derby Dolls, some absolutely amazing and badass women!" Howl says.  "We filmed on one of the hottest days, in a warehouse that had no air-conditioning, it was sweaty and fabulous!"

In the pouring rain today in New York City, as part of GMA's Summer Concert Series, Paramore performed "Ain't It Fun," "Misery Business" and "Still Into You."    Hayley Williams, in bright cool-aid colored red and blue hair, kept it upbeat, rousing the crowd to sing along, dancing for a energetic crowd who seemed like they couldn't care less about the rain.

Of course, Paramore has finally had their breakout year in the mainstream after  years of indie rock status.  Now, they're finally enjoying the fruits of their hard-earned labor after their fourth album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart in April, knocking out Justin Timberlake from the perch.

Tess Dunn
Tess Dunn pic via Facebook
There's so much to love about 19 year-old Tess Dunn. Not even twenty, this Santa Cruz native not only is set to release her third EP, she's also about to perform at Vans Warped Tour for the fifth year.  She's basically doing what most of us only daydreams of doing.

As a singer-songwriter, she first caught our attention with her delicate and personal songs set to piano four years ago.  Since then, she's matured as a writer, transitioning from bubblegum pop to alternative rock.  Her newest, "Daydreamers" is off her upcoming EP of the same name.  With revving guitars and pounding beats, Dunn goes from power ballad to anthem-rock choruses that sounds like it's ready-made for any arena show and echoes the infectious sounds of another rock/alternative band - Paramore!

"Daydreamers" is available to download for free right now and her new album will be dropping June 21st.  If you can't wait that long, she'll be streaming the full album on her Soundcloud page on June 14th!!

In it's 44th year, the LA Pride festival is a three-day event, kicking off on Friday with a free concert featuring Betty Who, Mary Lambert and Monogem - all who have been big supporters raising awareness in the TLGBT community - in what was dubbed as a 'Celebration of Women.'

Mary Lambert made a big splash with her hit song "Same Love" which highlighted the plight of equal marriage for all and made headlines at this year's Grammy Awards when she took part, along with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, in marrying couples during their same-sex anthem "Same Love."  During her set, Lambert mentioned that this was her first Pride festival.

Betty Who also became the voice of same-sex marriage after her song "Somebody Loves You" became a viral sensation when a couple used the song to propose to his love. That video skyrocketed to over 12 million hits and made Betty Who a household name.  She has since sang the song at Spencer and Dustin's wedding and continues to be vocal about TLGBT rights.

Saturday's festivities featured openly bi-sexual Azealia Banks, the hip-hop bad girl who's highly anticipated debut album Broke With Expensive Taste looks closer to finally getting a release date, recently telling Nylon that it'll be released this September.  Banks took the stage dressed like a superhero, donning her megaphone while singing her hits "ATM Jam," "212" and "Yung Rapunxel."

Thunder Ground, also made its first appearance.  The pop-up roller rink made up to look like a disco with crystal ball hanging above in its center pays homage to the nightclub roller rinks and infamous daytime Playboy Mansion roller skating parties of the late '70s and early '80s with the hottest DJs spinning the latest hits.

Echosmith's Sydney Sierota at Warped Tour

It's been a wild ride for these Sierota siblings otherwise known as Echosmith.  Since releasing their debut album Talking Dreams last October, these 'cool kids' have been creating quite a buzz in the music scene and gaining widespread acclaim; appearing in magazines - Alternative Press, Entertainment Weekly, Billboard, Seventeen and Nylon and featured on MTV, Vh1 while getting major radio support from college radio as well as Los Angeles' Alt 98.7.

Tonight, Echosmith, consisting of Jamie, Sydney, Noah and Graham, had their late-night debut, appearing on TNT's Conan O'brien show performing their hit single "Cool Kids" - a far cry since we first saw the group performing on Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade three years ago.

This summer, they will be one of the most highly anticipated acts on this year's Vans Warped Tour starting next week in Houston, Texas.

Chari XCX at The El Rey

Charli XCX has been responsible for some of the catchiest pop/dance songs in the past few years.  Not counting her chart topping debut album True Romance (2013), Charli XCX was also behind the world-wide hit  "I Love It" by Icona Pop and this year's breakout hit "Fancy" from Iggy Azalea - currently #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

Today she premiered "Boom Clap" a single off the upcoming film "Fault in Our Stars" starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort. I haven't read the book, but it's based on the best-selling novel by John Green and judging by the online fandamonium, this film is looking like it's gonna be the hit of the summer - like "Twilight" big without the sparkly vampires and cgi werewolves.  Although the film comes out June 6th, you can catch glimpses of the movie in Charli XCX's new video below which was shot in Amsterdam and sees Charli visit the same spots featured in the movie.

“’Boom Clap’ is a magical song to me. It celebrates epic love," Charli says.  "I want people to dance and cry to it, and scream it at the top of their lungs.”

Currently in the studio working on new material for her second album, which is set to release later this year on Neon Gold/Atlantic Records; a follow up to her debut LP, “True Romance” (IAMSOUND), which landed Pitchfork’s “Best New Music” status and one of Rolling Stone’s “hottest synth-pop acts.”

Throwing Muses and Tanya Donelly

Kristin Hersh's Throwing Muses performed at The Bootleg Theater for two nights last Thursday and Friday.  The first night was held inside the smaller Bootleg Bar and the second (on Friday) was held in the much larger Bootleg Theater which was sold out.  Also on hand was co-founder and step-sister Tanya Donelly who opened up for the band.  The two shows were part of a larger tour in support of Throwing Muses releasing Purgatory/Paradise -  their first album in 10 years.

Here's Banks' new vidoe for "Drowning."  The song is off her debut album Goddess which is scheduled to be released on September 9th via Harvest Records.

Ahead of their release of their debut album Invisible TonightThe Nearly Deads has premiered their new official video for "I Said," the first single off Invisible Tonight which pays homage to the 1992 film Wayne's World. The song also serves as an anthem for inner-strength and empowerment.

"I see the way you're staring at me like I'm some kind of girl who follows boys around the world some kind of lost and confused little can't help myself," TJ sings and then finds the strength to leave those that are holding her back.  "NO - I am aware of all the games that you play but let me tell you boy it gets you nowhere and I said we're over...cause I can do this by myself  I'm gonna go it alone."

"I Said" is just a  tease of what to expect from the Nashville rock/alternative band, showcasing a wide musical range that shows that they can go from breezy, power-ballad to expansive, high-octane rock in 0 to 60.

For their newest album, The Nearly Deads took to Kickstarter for funding as a newly independent band, recently parting ways with their past label Standby Records.

But the fans who propelled their breakthrough video "Never Look Back" to over 6.3 million views won't be disapointed with their latest offering.  The Nearly Deads, consisting of Theresa Jeane (Vocals), Steven Tobi (Guitar), Javier Garza Jr. (Guitar), Kevin Koelsch (Bass) and Josh Perrone (Drums), delve back into their early punk-rock roots and layer some 90's alternative on the album which got its early start over a year ago by road-testing their new songs during their live gigs and then recording them in the studio whereas before it would've been the complete opposite.

"We've been working on these songs for over a year," says TJ in their Kickstarter video.   "There's been a lot of things that this band has gone through in this year and it's really an album about that journey. It's turned into this whole beast of being thrust into the business...and what it can do to people and to me as a person."

Now with more control over their destiny and calling their own shots, The Nearly Deads' debut album Invisible Tonight is set to be released on June 24th and are currently on tour through June 29th.
