It's pouring rain in Los Angeles right now; kind of dreary but much needed.  So it's a delight that we hear this new song that feels like warm sunshine on my face even though I'm sitting in my cubicle right now.

Candy crush and sun-soaked with light sprinkles of sugary melodies, "Till Tomorrow" is the first track off LA-based pop outfit DWNTWN.  The song is off their new self-titled EP which drops April 29th via Jullian Records.

Over the years, the band has expanded live from a duo, into a trio, and now fills the stage as a foursome.  Having just completed a successful LA residency with over 400 people in attendance each week, and having toured previously with some heavy hitters, Capital Cities and Gold Fields, DWNTWN is excited to get on the road again next month with El Ten Eleven.

They will also be playing in select markets on both coasts during release week.

Tour Dates with El Ten Eleven:
3.12 @ Strummers, Fresno, CA
3.13 @ Belly Up Tavern, Solana Beach, CA
3.14 @ Constellation Room, Santa Ana, CA
3.15 @ SLO Brew, San Luis Obispo, CA

NEW VIDEO: BRODY DALLE'S "MEET THE FOETUS/OH THE JOY"

Punk warrior princess, Brody Dalle just released  the first track off her upcoming first solo album featuring  Garbage's own Shirley Manson and Warpaint's Emily Kokal on backing vocals.

Called "Meet the Foetus / Oh the Joy" the video is an intense video that features vivid, animated imagery of a baby in tophat riding a dragon who weeps at the brutality and violent nature of human addiction.  That is all.

NEW VIDEO: HAIM'S "IF I COULD CHANGE YOUR MIND"

HAIM
HAIM will perform at this year's Coachella Music Festival.
SoCal darlings HAIM just released their new video for "If I Could Change Your Mind" which is off their debut album Days Are Gone which dropped last year.   They're currently on their European Tour with stops later this year at Coachella this April.

Growing up listening to their parents music, it isn't surprising that their sound echoes the classics of Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell and Smokey Robinson. But then again, they are children of the nineties which is also why you'll hear touches of rock alternative delivered over their catchy melodies producing a SoCal sound that is best described as folk with echoes of alternative and a touch of R&B.  But it's their trance-inducing percussions and silky-smooth harmonies that will make you get up on your feet and dance.

DOLLYROTS RECORD RELEASE PARTY @ THE SATELLITE

The Dollyrots
The Dollyrots had their record release party for Barefoot and Pregnant at The Satellite.
Last Thursday at the Satellite  was a cause for celebration on so many levels. After a  long hiatus, which saw The Dollyrots play their last show last July, Kelly Ogden and Luis Cabezas took the stage at The Satellite in Silver Lake to celebrate the release of their new album Barefoot and Pregnant which drops February 25th.  But of course, the title of the album isn't a coincidence.  You see, Kelly was pregnant during the recording of their fifth album and twelve weeks after giving birth, Kelly was back onstage, with a glow, and rockin' out like she's never missed a beat.
Luis Cabezas of The Dollyrots
Luis Cabezas of The Dollyrots

On their new album, The Dollyrots went back exploring their roots and just as both Kelly and Luis welcomed a new life to the world, Barefoot and Pregnant represents a new beginning while also taking them back to their own beginnings as a band by writing simpler songs with catchy hooks and, above all, really good melodies; sort of like what was present on their 2004 debut album Eat My Heart Out.

And you can tell being pregnant during the recording process rubbed off with on Kelly's writing with touching songs about the bonds of family and love in "Nightlight,"  "Bury Me In Ireland" and the title track "Barefoot and Pregnant."   While in "Puppy Dog Eyes," although written for their dog Quito, some of the lyrics could've been born from Kelly's motherly instincts when she sings "You can do no wrong. Love's unconditional.  I promise I won't bite. Let me melt you're heart with puppy dog eyes.. I'd take a bullet for because you're all I ever want to live for."  Quick trivia: For "Puppy Dog Eyes," Kelly mentioned that the vocal track on the album was recorded while she was laid up pregnant in bed.  They kept the track on the album after failed attempts to re-record it better.

Of course, Barefoot and Pregnant wouldn't be a Dollyrots album without their signature breakneck speed, sugary,  punk-rock anthems and they deliver with sure to be fan favorites like "First World Anarchist" and "Stupidly In Love."

MIRIAM BRYANT, IVY LEVAN and NATALIA KILLS @ THE BOOTLEG

Natalia Kills
Natalia Kills peforms at The Bootleg Theater for the New New Artist Residency.
photos by picksysticks
Sponsored by Revolve Clothing and Filter Magazine, The Bootleg Theater, for the second straight week, hosted The New New Artist Residency with a trio of buzzworthy artists from Interscope Records - Miriam Bryant, Ivy Levan and Natalia Kills

For a Sunday night, the anticipation in the air in the packed venue, simmering for
Interscope's up-and-coming artists who sure to make 2014 their breakout year.

First off was British Natalia Kills, who was a popular UK actress, going by the name Natalie Keery-Fisher.  Possibly trying make it as a musician rather than glide on the coat-tails of her famous acting career, Natalia took on the new moniker "Kills" as her new stage name which fits nicely, accompanying her attitude-laced, pop-dance tunes.  You can consider Natalia Kills the British version of Lady Gaga without the costumes.

Ivy Levan
Ivy Levan will be performing at SXSW in March.
This was my first exposure to Kills which was a shock  since she's already released an album three years ago  - her debut called Perfectionist.  In October, she released her second full-length, Trouble, that is full of wonderful, juicy gems - songs that make it seem like I'm listening to pop songs for the very first time.  "Saturday Night," "Boys Don't Cry" and "Devil's Don't Cry" are my new favorites and are on constant play on Spotify which led me to re-discover "Wonderland" and "Kill My Boyfriend" among others from her 2011 album Perfectionist.

Last week, it was Ivy Levan's show that brought be back a second night.  Now, after watching Natalie Kills, I'll be coming back for a third week to watch her this Sunday night.

Ivy LevanIvy Levan

Ivy Levan continues to impress, oozing confidence like a silent assassin, Ivy Levan took the stage in a barely-there, one-piece showcasing her sexy and never-ending legs. With an attitude like Grace Jones and the vocal sounds of Amy Winehouse, it was her performance last week that brought me back for seconds as she was coming off the high of performing alongside Sting on David Letterman's Late Show a week earlier.

Vintage blues beats fused with a mixture of pop, soul and swing she calls "Swamp-Hop" is a contagious mixture that will quickly grow on you.  And once it grows on you, trust me, you won't want to find a cure for this.  Just dance like no one's watching and let it take you away with songs like "Hang Forever" and "Money," both of which you can find on her new debut EP Introducing the Dame

Miriam BryantMiriam Bryant

And to finish off the night was Swedish sensation Miriam Bryant who's popular EP Push Play and hit single of the same name has found herself among the favorites of music tastemakers such as MTV, NME and Rolling Stone.  And being handpicked by Grammy-winning music producer and DJ Zedd to sing on his song "Find You" only propelled her into the music industry's subconscious. Her songs can go from vulnerable, soft melodies (Raised in Rain),  to quick, marching band beats that rise to a rousing uplifting anthem (Push Play).

Miriam Bryant and Natalia Kills will end the New New Artist Residency this Sunday night at The Bootleg.  It's free so no excuses not to come.  Hob knob with them before they're too famous to walk amongst us mortals.

IVY LEVAN @ THE BOOTLEG THEATER

Ivy Levan
Ivy Levan performs Sunday at The Bootleg.
Watching Ivy Levan is like being transported back into a 50s blues nightclub during the big band era.  With flashes of attitude overflowing with sexiness, Ivy Levan performed at The Bootleg last Sunday as a part of Miriam Bryant's month-long residency.

Recently releasing her critically acclaimed EP Introducing the Dame, via Cherrytree Records, her music, dubbed as 'Swamp-Hop' is a mixuture of blues, pop and swing with a touch of soul and pop.  Listen to her single "Money," an infectious groove that has music tastemakers compare her to the likes of Amy Winehouse and Gwen Stefani.  Supported by a masked backing band who swayed and sung background, Levan's exciting and electrifying set was enough to guarantee another visit to The Bootleg this Sunday night.  And be sure to check her out next month where she's scheduled to perform at this years' SXSW.

If you haven't seen Conway live  yet, then you're missing one of the freshest, most exciting, most in-your-face performers in music today.  Pop music she ain't.  You're likely to get a good work out just trying to keep up with her and when you blast her EP Big Talk you'll turn into one aggressive, punker wanting to take out your frustrations on a punching bag.

FOXES DISCUSSES HER DEBUT ALBUM 'GLORIOUS'

Foxes
Foxes' debut album drops this March on Epic Records.
Foxes (aka: Louisa Rose Allen) just released a sort of behind the scenes video of the making of her upcoming debut album "Glorious" which drops this March via Epic Records.

In the vid, Louisa recalls growing as an artist stating that her songs are, often times, her own personal therapy where she sings to herself as in "Youth" and "Holding on to Heaven."   Her melancholy songs, she describes, usually follow the theme of 'sadness that runs through happiness.'

Watch the video below to listen to her her explain her writing process and you can pre-order Foxes' debut album 'Glorious' from iTunes and receive an instant download of album track Shaking Heads here: http://smarturl.it/GloriousiTdlx?iqid=yt

NEW SONG: LILY ALLEN'S "L8 CMMR" ON GIRLS 2 SOUNDTRACK

Four years after announcing her self-retirement from music, Lily Allen, this past few months,  has been releasing music like there's no tomorrow.  First, her  "Hard Out Here" hit single released before the winter holidays shot her back to relevancy as though she had never left.  Her next single, "Air Balloon," released last month only solidified why Allen should still be ranked up there with the likes of the Katy Perry's and Britney Spears' of the world.  Of course, all this is in preparation for her upcoming third studio album.

Today, Lily has premiered another song, “L8 CMMR,” (via Rolling Stone) which is exclusively featured on the highly anticipated ‘Girls Volume 2: All Adventurous Women Do…’ official soundtrack from the HBO® original series out next week – February 11th via Atlantic Records.

Miranda Lambert performs at Lilith Fair 2010.

Loving this new song from Miranda Lambert.  Her new single is called "Automatic" and it's off her upcoming fifth solo album.

With a simple melody that paints an innocent past before the digital age, "Automatic" recalls a simpler time when people wrote letters by hand instead of by keypad, when the act sitting down and  making a phone call was a scheduled event and when actual shopping meant going to the store to handpick an item instead of browsing and clicking a 'shopping cart.'
