Echosmith performs at The Troubadour
photos by picksysticks

It was an extreme change, watching Echosmith at the sold out Troubadour.  A year before, I had watched the band, made up of siblings Jamie, Noah, Sydney and Graham, perform for free, busking on Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade.  Now they were playing sold out shows.

Don't let their ages fool you, ranging from 14 to 19,  bubble-gum pop isn't in their vocabulary.  They have a mature sound which isn't surprising when you learn that they grew up in a musical household, their musical influences ranging from Mumford and Sons to Joy Division which probably explains the name of the band, Echosmith; just as a blacksmith shapes metal and steel, Echosmith shapes sounds, and in their case, different styles of sounds or muscial genres.    This night, they showcased their harmony stylings of Fleetwood Mac, the pop sensibilities of Tegan and Sara and the rock melodies of U2.
Their debut album, from Warner Bros. Records, is expected to be released later this year and judging from their set this night, it's going to be a successful debut with equal parts pop/alternative with a dash of good ol' rock and roll.

Be sure to check them out in a city near you.  Echosmith are currently on tour with Owl City and starting in June,  they play nineteen cities on this summer's Vans Warped Tour.
