SUSANNA HOFFS New EP Drops December 4th

Iconic singer/songwriter/musician SUSANNA HOFFS has a special holiday treat for music lovers, FROM ME TO YOU, a three-song EP of some of her favorite 1960’s gems.  A “labor of love” in her words, the EP features SUSANNA’s interpretations of, The Jaynetts’ “Sally Go 'Round The Roses,” The Beatles’ “All I’ve Got to Do” and The Zombies’ “This Will Be Our Year.”

“It was a pure pleasure to record songs that I adore and have dreamed of singing for years,” SUSANNA says. Regarding the song selections, she says, “It’s exciting to be able to share some of my more obscure favorites. I think of this EP as kind of like a mix-tape that I’d give to a friend, except I decided to actually record the songs myself.”

FROM ME TO YOU follows SUSANNA’s critically acclaimed solo album SOMEDAY, released this past summer on her own label Baroque Folk, distributed by Welk Music Group. Reviewers were effusive in their praise for the record.  As American Songwriter noted, “The honey-voiced songbird delivers a solid album with a feel-good vibe, which sounds authentic in its union of 1960s simplicity and 2012 sophistication (à la Dusty Springfield meets Adele). … This is easily and undeniably Hoffs’ most definitive musical statement to date.”

Both FROM ME TO YOU and SOMEDAY were produced and orchestrated by the revered Mitchell Froom.

SUSANNA, who’s just wrapped up the first phase of her SOMEDAY tour, is excited about continuing to perform and make music videos in support of the record. She is also thrilled about the much-anticipated release of Under the Covers Volume 3 (the '80s) with pop powerhouse Matthew Sweet in 2013.

“For me, the end of the year is a time to reflect on all the things that I am grateful for,” SUSANNA says. “This year, I’m especially thankful for the opportunity to make music for the pure joy of it, and to be able to connect with all the people who have given me so much support over the years. For that, I am truly grateful.”

Chicago EDM-dubstep trio KREWELLA is set to release their new EP Play Harder which drops December 10th and features remixes of their hit songs "Alive" and "Killin' It. "  The EP also includes the new song called "Come & Get It"  which is currently being offered as a free download on Krewella's Facebook page right HERE.

PLAY HARDER is the follow-up to KREWELLA’s #1 Beatport EP released earlier this year, PLAY HARD. There’s an incredible range of talent who lend their skills to the Krew’s breakout productions including the East Coast’s Cash Cash and Kalkutta, Danish and Swedish duo Pegboard Nerds, France’s Dirtyphonics and the Netherland’s Chuckie just to name a few.

"Come & Get It" is a free download from Krewella.

Check out this collaboration of bands as part of "Made in 48," a new series hosted by Robin Davey and Greta Valenti, the duo behind Well Hung Heart.  The show, which premieres in the next couple months challenges bands to write, record and then film and edit a brand new song in the span of 48 hours.  In this first episode, Well Hung Heart and Gram Rabbit team up to form The Crazy X's and birth the song "Boom."   It's pretty awesome given the fact that this song was written in less than two days which is better than most songs out there on the airwaves right now.

Catch Well Hung Heart when they play a few shows in the SoCal area.  Check out the dates below:
Dec. 1st - Well Hung Heart @ Molly Malone's

Clairy Browne and the Bangin' Rackettes
Clairy Browne and the Bangin' Rackettes performs their first U.S. show at Santa Monica's Central SAPC.
photos by picksysticks

Clairy BrowneCacooned as an old soul, Clairy Browne, on the outside is retro  with 50's girl pop sheen.  On the inside, just waiting to burst out, she is fresh and new like the colorful wings of a newborn butterfly.  Combine the two and you get the infectious sounds of Clairy Browne and the Bangin' Rackettes who put on a fresh twist on the classic doo-wop harmonies by fusing them with breathless beats of soul and jazzy melodies. And with the nostalgic big band sound that includes the jazzy horn section and free-wheeling pianos, it's no wonder why Clairy Browne has been a sensation in her native Australia.

Now, after conquering Australia, Clairy Browne and the Bangin' Rackettes are looking to build their success in the U.S.  with multiple live TV performances and shows in New York and Los Angeles.  And with their scheduled first U.S. show at The Mint quickly selling out, Clairy Browne and the Bangin' Rackettes added an extra show at Santa Monica's Central SAPC.

Soulful vocals that bring up comparisons to Amy Winehouse, Browne's voice is also spiced up with flirtatious rockness that got the crowd dancing especially when she broke out into  "Baby Caught the Bus,"  an infectious tune set to the The Rackettes' silky, smooth harmonies while  "Love Letter," the international hit single which was hand-picked by Heineken for their new commercial "The Switch" ended their set with a bang.  Check it out below and you can download it on iTunes right HERE.  But Browne shines when she slows down the tempo during her sultry ballads, singing with proud, vulnerability in  "Vicious Cycle" and "Yellow Bird," accented by bluesy horn section.

Their critically acclaimed Australian debut album Baby Caught the Bus was named "Album of the Year" by ABC Radio National in Australia and will have it's official U.S. release next spring with additional new songs added to the record.

Beach Day are  Kimmy, Skyler and Nat.

Here's a slice of nostalgia brought to us by Beach Day, a trio from Hollywood, Florida who bonded over their vintage-era surroundings and their love of the sounds of 60's Girl Groups.  Described as a female-fronted Beach Boys with Shangri-La's melodies with the attitude of the Dum Dum Girls, Beach Day is the perfect summer soundtrack.

Today, they released their single "Walking on the Streets" on limited edition clear golden vinyls on Kanine Records. Check out the song which premiered on FILTER right HERE and also listen to more  below of Beach Day performing on Serious Business Studios for Break Thru Radio.

“Walking on the Streets” is nearly four minutes of gorgeous surf and garage rock, complete with tambourine bashing, sentimental keys, jangly guitar, and rich vocals all about lust and longing. It captures the sincerity of the ’60s, while ringing ever so true today.”  ~  FILTER MAGAZINE

The Balconies performs during Filter's Culture Collide at The Echo in October.
Our favorite band coming out at this years' Filter Magazine's Culture Collide Music Festival was The Balconies, a trio from Canada who recently debuted their new video for "Do It in the Dark."   It shows lead singer Jacquie Nevelle and her unsuspecting friends camping in the woods, leading to a surprise gory ending with Gap-like zombies.

Now, after watching this video, who would've known when we saw them in October that we were near spot-in with our 'supernatural' write-up (well...sort of):
"Jacquie Neville leads vocal and guitar like an insane immortal sorcerer setting herself on fire for fun, repeatedly. She spasms as though possessed by a James Brown in flames. She does this while transforming her guitar into a rampaging adrenaline drugged bull. Her voice sounds like a disco Blondie, but instruments lash with guitar and bass torturing tones of Psychobilly. Neville's performance vibes of a damsel turning werewolf in dead of night under a full moon disco ball. She has to be seen for this to be truly understood and believed. Supernatural.

NME Premieres "Hear Them Fear Them" from THE INDECENT

Emily and Bo Brout of The Indecent
Emily and Bo Brout of The Indecent play The Viper Room in September.

The Indecent are all about heavy guitars and growling vocals.  Seattle grunge  comes to mind when you hear their debut EP Control from Warner Bros. Records.  NME just premiered the new video for The Indecent's "Hear Them Fear Them" music video off their Control EP.

Seemingly shy and reserved, The Indecent shines without the flashiness, their commanding presence only heightened when you see them live as we did when they thundered into The Viper Room one fall evening in September.  This night, as we noted, "Hear Them Fear Them" hit emotionally like a brick through a window, a song delivered over soaring melodies that slowly builds with clobbering beats, ending with a classic rock, guitar assault.  We love this band. We love their music. 'Nuff said.

Tour and Album News from WE ARE THE IN CROWD

Tay Jardine of We Are the In Crowd
Tay Jardine at Warped Tour 2012 - Irvine
Check out this deal!  For the entire month of November, We Are the In Crowd are offering their album Best Intentions on Amazon for only $5.  Best Intentions is their debut album which was released in 2011 and spawned the hit singles "Rumer Mill" and "Kiss Me Again."

It's been a busy year for We Are the In Crowd.  Just coming off the entire summer playing over 40 dates on this year's Vans Warped Tour and an international tour earlier in the year, on Saturday, the 5-piece band continued their gruelling schedule by performing at The House of Blues on Sunset to a packed crowd.

As we wrote back in June when we saw them at Warped Tour, singer Taylor Jardine comes off genuine and real in her performances. This is happy positive pop rock for maturing young adults with lyrics to lean on when one needs an emotional lift or when feelings of love get confusing.

They are not from the big city of New York bad asses, but rather happily expresses hometown in Poughkeepsie, New York, where girls like Jardine loves broccoli. It’s hard to say Poughkeepsie without the tickling in the throat and breaking a tiny smile. We Are The In Crowd has that same effect amplified.

Currently, We Are the In Crowd are on tour with Yellowcard and The Wonder Years where they head to the East Coast and then return to southern California with dates in Anaheim on Dec. 1st and San Diego on Dec. 2nd.  Then, they'll finish out the year down under to perform a few dates in Australia with Mayday Parade.

Rachel Taylor Returns to He Is We as Trevor Kelly Leaves

Trevor Kelly and Rachel Taylor of He Is We
Trevor Kelly and Rachel Taylor of He Is We performs at The Troubadour in Los Angeles.
In the latest saga in the so-called breakup of He Is We, Rachel Taylor, sporting a new red ‘do, posted a YouTube video on Halloween and reveals that she’s back in He Is We and Trevor Kelly is now gone, concentrating on another project.

Comprised of Rachel and Trevor Kelly, fans flocked to He Is We's wholesome music through word-of-mouth. Their songs, filled with infectious melodies and inspired lyrics made their demo's highly sought after and in 2009, they were named PureVolume's #1 unsigned band.

Back in 2010, in their first full U.S. tour, He Is We hobbled into Los Angeles. Battling fatigue and pneumonia, lead singer, Rachel Taylor, sang a shortened show, singing a doctor prescribed five-song set at The Troubadour. The Tacoma duo, had already endured the two month trek across the country as they got ready  to release their debut album, My Forever that November from Universal Motown and FrameworkNY. Earlier that same year,  He Is We again had to cancel a few shows in Los Angeles due to emergency health reasons.  And now, as we find out more details about the troubles this band faced, there's news that Rachel is rejoining the band after an August announcement that vocalist Stevie Scott was brought in to replace her.

Rachel intros the video with "The reason things have not been out in the open lately is because there have been a lot of emotions at play. I have been fighting something I can't, in the end, control. I've been given an incredible blessing and a civil discussion took place. Here is what has happened..."

Check out the video with the attached transcript of the video below.

So, there’s been a lot been going on as far as the band goes and I have literally just been praying so much… and I know for some people that’s like, “Eewww, what are you going to get from praying?”  But I actually get a lot from it.

Um…as things started to kind of crumble down, all of a sudden these opportunities were coming up and it was one of the most incredible things just to watch how everything played out. The confusion that has kind of erupted has been, you know, “What is happening with He Is We?” and this and that. It took me walking away and literally, like losing everything, at least in here, before I could really tell what was really important to me. Um, there were a lot of things that happened that I should have stopped or said something about that I didn’t and I needed that time to really collect myself and start writing things down rather than keeping them in and allowing them to just (explode).

Lead singer Rachel Taylor of He Is WeUm, I guess the announcement is that I will be writing this next He Is We record and I will be singing it and I will be touring it...if that’s the way you say it.  And I can honestly say that this has made me so much stronger and it's made me fall in complete and total love with you guys, as fans, and I would even say more so friends…you guys have been there for me like some of my friends haven’t been, so I can’t thank you enough for everything that you guys have done.

The big thing is, “When and when this happening is and this and that?"  We are currently planning a writing trip. We being whoever is involved and I don’t know what the plans are for Trevor exactly. I know he he has found a project that he is absolutely in love with and believes in full heartedly and all I can do is support that and um...send all sorts of love and sometimes we are brought to people and we work together and then we’re off to our own journey and we find something that is even more incredible for us at that point in time. So I’m gonna ask that everyone just support Trevor and everything  that he is doing. He is extremely talented, he is extremely gifted and I can’t help it but think that whatever he does in the future is just going to be amazing. But with that being said, I plan to continue with he is we and I don’t want to shelve it I don’t wanna push it off to the side. I feel like there’s so much more to be done. And all the politics and stuff aside, this could be incredible.

It’s taking a lot of conversation, a lot of people who have noticed that that  y’know I’ve walked away and now it’s like well, now where’s the band at? And y’know, is he walking away? ..that’s not what it’s about it’s about the fact that we’re civil and we are able to talk about it and we are able to figure it out. And just like every, I guess, relationship at some point, y’know, you meet a person to become better and to learn about yourself, things that you never would have learned without them. And so that’s kind of where we’re at. Our job is to support each other completely and totally 100 percent regardless y’know if the project is with him without him with me or without me.  He is We has been my dream. I came up with the name when I was in 11th grade and the idea of being able to just forget about it was unbearable and you guys really really really showed me that with all of your support and so I’m happy to say that I’m not going anywhere and as far as it’s going to be to just carry one with hate mail no bashing…we can't do that. We can't afford to do that. I’ve seen so many… like teams and stuff like that and I don’t want that to happen. It should just be team he is we.  And that should be the end of it. He helped create this band in an incredible way and I’m feeling a lot of pressure right now to kind of make sure everything sounds… nice and that you guys like it. And so I am not making any compromises. I’m going to write from the heart and I’m nervous. I don’t like attention and I don’t’ enjoy pressure but this is what I’ve been called to do.

It’s pretty crazy so there’s the update. You guys will be hearing from me again soon and I hope you like my hair as it is.  I got a little bored. I just noticed how red it looks. But anyways I love you guys and thank you so much for supporting me through the puffy face and the chopping-off-my-hair and going crazy and I don’t know…I really appreciate you guys and I’m excited to make some music and get it out there and hopefully you guys dig it.  (Blows kiss to camera.)

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour performs at The Troubadour in West Hollywood.

Their known as The Asteroids Galaxy Tour which is fitting since their songs sound like they come from a different universe. With lush sampling, a large horn section and the unique vocal sounds,  this Denmark band stopped by The Troubadour, nearly filling it to capacity which is normally hard to do for any venue on a Monday night.

This band quickly shot out of the gate in with their worldwide hit debut album Fruit in 2009.  Touring with Amy Winehouse and Katy Perry came soon after as well as getting their songs placed on television shows like NBC's Chuck, AMC's Mad Men and Gossip Girl and commercials like Apple's iPod Touch and Heineken's International ad that introduced their hit song "The Golden Age" and the band to U.S. audiences.

Mette Lindberg of Asteroids Galaxy TourMette Lindberg of Asteroids Galaxy Tour

With their trademark big band sound, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour are pros at sonic landscaping, creating a party vibe by fusing disco-pop flavors with R&B beats. And with porcelain, psychedelic, pop-princess lead singer Mette Lindberg on the mic, she showcases the bands rich and cascading party arrangements in songs like "Lady Jesus," "Around the Bend" and "The Sun Ain't Shining o More," all off their debut album Fruit which also spawned their internationally hit single "The Golden Age" which they sang for an encore.

But it's their current record Out of Frequency, which dropped earlier this year, that cements their party band status with  surprise hits like "Heart Attack," "Mafia" and my new favorite, "Suburban Space Invader."

They head to the east coast for the last week on their remaining US tour dates ending in Brooklyn, New York on this Sunday (Nov. 11th)
