KAILE GOH Album News

Kaile Goh

Ms. Kaile Goh has been writing since she was nine years old and released her debut album, One Too Many Times, earlier this year. A model appearing in national campaigns such as Disney, Target, JCPenny, Barbie and Kodak, Kaile used her modeling money to buy her first guitar and performing at open mic nights. And now, at 15, Kaile sounds like a cross between Talking Back Sunday and Taylor Swift. She just performed on the Vans Warped Tour and currently is in the studio recording her new album with Producer David Bendeth (Paramore, All Time Low, Taking Back Sunday) for LAVA/Universal Republic. We can't wait! Here's something to hold us over until her album comes out!

NeEMA @ Hotel Cafe

On Saturday, The Hotel Cafe, the quaint and cozy bar that has hosted Sara Bareilles, Meiko, Cary Brothers and Ingred Michaelson, welcomed Canadian singer-songwriter NeEMA, currently on tour supporting her second album, Watching You Think, which will get its U.S. release on February 1, 2011 from Sony International.

There's an innocence in NeEMA's music that blankets you like the feeling you get moments after an afternoon rain shower. That breath of fresh air. That cool sensation from a slight breeze on your skin. It's as though the rain has just washed all your troubles away. And it's a moment you wish could last forever. Now, if you can capture all that and put it to music, that's what NeEMA's music would sound like.

In Watching You Think, NeEMA is able to reveal so much with so little, her simplicity in her songs, exposing vulnerability and a sense of yearning that can only be expressed privately and safely inside a room – the only thing is, it's a room surrounded by glass for all to see. And it's this openness that breathes authenticity into NeEMA's songs. Just listen to "Running," "Lost in LA," and "Elsa's Lullaby" with their shy guitars complimented by NeEMA's fragile vocals. "Escape," and "Stay," are the upbeat pop songs that highlights the album heavy with soft ballads. But in this collection of 12 songs, NeEMA's strengths lay in her ability to weave simple and catchy melodies that borrow from folk, jazz and pop. She even puts her delicate touches on her rendition of "Romeo and Juliet."

Produced in association with Leonard Cohen and Pierre Marchand (Sarah McLachlan, Ron Sexsmith), "Watching You Think" follows NeEMA's debut album, Masi Cho, which she released independently to rave reviews in 2006 and has since performed around the globe.

Currently, NeEMA is on a 25-city North American tour with the Chapin Sisters that began in New York and finishes up in California in December. Be sure to check her out. You definitely won't be disappointed.

ANDROID LUST: The Human Animal

Android Lust

Android Lust's fourth studio album, The Human Animal is a mechanical beast with heavy indrustrial-electro beats and haunting vocals that sounds like the love child of Nine Inch Nails and Garbage. According to her official site, Shikhee, the woman behind Android Lust, scoured the NYC streets and subways with a portable recorder, collecting sounds that found their way as rhythmic and melodic elements throughout the album. Her album, which was release in August has already been getting rave reviews and even got a shout-out on CBS's NCIS!

CATHLEEN JOHNSON Debut Single

Cathleen Johnson
Cathleen Johnson

The new single, “Make a Change” by Cathleen Johnson has that Southern comfort feel of sipping iced cold lemonade among a field of daisies bending to the breeze, while watching the sky turn gray to the impending hurricane. A pop enlightened acoustic guitar country song with a lemon wedge of hope. Johnson’s vocals have a yearning fluttering twang as if raising herself from her washboard knees and forcing a positive wail from within that breaks through her woeful tears, “It’s time to make a change.”

This is Cathleen Johnson’s first single and has been getting instant radio airplay since its debut in September. Hollywood Pop Academy was instrumental in Johnson’s development of this song, for it was at this academy where she was inspired to write and record this feature track. And although the song has a country Western genre sound, Johnson herself is originally from the Philippines , where she eventually moved to Canada in her early childhood, and now as an adult, resides in Los Angeles. Not a lick of true Southern in her, though her vocals truly reflects that soulful Southern hankering.

Her voice may not sound familiar, not just yet, but one might have spotted her appearance many a times. She was cast in the film Going Back (2001) starring Casper Van-dien. And for television, she guest starred on award winning series such as “The Shield” and “Saving Grace.” The talent for Cathleen Johnson is definitely there, it is just a matter of time before she is discovered by the lime light.
