Evil Beaver performs at The Roxy.

Hey ya'll. 405 East has a wicked cool review of Evil Beaver. Here's an excerpt:

Evil Evie with smoked rough vocals and clenching electric bass guitar fronts a drummer, and that’s it, that’s the bass and bash band that is Evil Beaver. Make it ten years of spitting pissed-off juicy licks of metal, which include six albums and a recorded live performance in Switzerland, and in addition to this list of recordings is the newly compiled round-up of “Beaver fan favz from the 2000 thru 2007” entitled: “7 Yearz of Rock.” And there’s still more blowing out speakers on cakes to come as EB is set to release a new album in 2009.

And if you feel that you’re behind on their spirit of ill-tempered enlightenment, you can currently download all their music for Free! Check out their site at Download and crank deaf the tunes into your ear canals and while you’re at it, get out to their live show!

Evil Evie of Evil Beaver
As for me, there’s a soundtrack of my Evil Beaver favorites that unravels like a scattered thread of lingering thoughts. It started out as a chronological “greatest hits” of Evil Beaver, but then when placed in dramatic order, the music told instead a rather interesting yet abstract story. A sort of rock opera of mixed media imagery. Of course I took artistic liberties on my behalf in the interpretation of their music. My flow of consciousness floating within the frameworks of Evil Beaver yielded a strange output in which the final piece is a trip through the mad funhouse of reality. The sanity ends here.

NICO VEGA @ The Roxy

Nico Vega's new self-titled album. Click image above to buy their album.

Last Tuesday, I was able to catch the NICO VEGA show at The Roxy for their new self-titled CD release show and personally, I've never seen The Roxy THAT packed! Here's a video below(courtesy of 405east) of Nico Vega at the Roxy playing my favorite song, "GRAVITY"!!

This trio, consisting of Aja Volkman (vocals), Rich Koehler (guitar) and Dan Epand (drums), didn't disapoint, giving the crowd a pure, adrenalin-packed, volume to eleven-filled rock show. Aja's weathered voice seems fragile when she acknowlegdes the capacity crowd but once she gets started, her voice packs a wallop as her and the rest of the band rev up full speed and never slow down. Reviews are in for this album. Here's an excerpt from
If you’re looking for a healthy dose of good ole rock n’ roll, the album, Nico Vega, is one of the best servings I’ve heard in a very long time. Incorporating elements of soul, folk and electronic sounds, the album is sure to satiate your hunger for fresh rock music.
Check out the rest of the review right HERE.

In other Nico Vega news: So here I am getting ready to watch American Idol Thursday night, and all of a sudden this FOX commercial comes on promoting their shows. What caught my attention was the song playing over the clips of The Simpsons, 24, House, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles and Hell's Kitchen. It was none other than L.A.'s own Nico Vega and (of course) my favorite song "Gravity." Woo-hoo! Check it out below!

MARCH 14TH - The Roxy with the Von Bondies

Here's another Nico Vega video of them performing "Burn Burn" off their new self-titled CD. Enjoy!

S.O.S. The Breakup

There must be something in the water that breeds just fun and exciting bands in Orange County. Whether it be the year-round sunny weather or the picture-esque ocean views, The OC just has a way of influencing bands with energetic and catchy music to party to.

Hailing from The OC, The Breakup's newest album, "Don't Keep Us A Secret," is ripe with vintage 80's inspired pop/rock that will surely make you get up to dance and sing.

Playing last Thursday at The Key Club, The Breakup outshined this night's crowded line-up with a tight set-list that showcased Kristina's commanding vocals, Melissa's authoritative drumbeats and guitar-driven songs from Matt. Add to that the cool, smooth bass of Francis and George's keyboards leading the charge and you have a solid power-pop performance filled with infectious melodies and scream-out-loud, anthem-like choruses. Such is the case in "All The Way," "Now or Never," and "S.O.S.," well-crafted songs that surely will keep you humming the tune days later. The surprising treat is George's keys that add a touch of nostalgic 80s-pop sounds in songs like "Wake Up," and "All The Way." All in all, "Don't Keep Us A Secret" is filled with high-octane songs that simmer to a boiling, fast tempo until its feverish, volcanic explosions of pure energy.

This talented quintet knows how to rock and they make it seem effortless. With only five tracks on the album, it's sure to wet your appetite for more songs. To date, The Breakup performed on the Vans Warped Tour, has received airplay on The World Famous Los Angeles' KROQ and their songs have also been featuared on MTV. "Don't Keep Us A Secret" is a fitting title to their latest EP considering that once you've listened to this album, it will be hard for anyone to keep The Breakup a secret much longer.
