FACELIFT LA: Lisa D'Amato, Ultraviolet Sound & Electric Valentine
One of the new best parties in town is Facelift LA and Thursday night at Hollywood’s Play Lounge proved why. It brought out an onslaught of the best club/techno/dance music groups in Los Angeles. What more can you ask for? Other than the event being free (RSVP for over 21 of course) and also having a free vodka bar until 10, on the bill this night was Electric Valentine, Ultraviolet Sound and Lisa D’Amato. Sa-WEEEET!

Headlining the night was Lisa D’Amato. With the lack of a stage, Lisa didn’t miss a beat. After pushing back the packed house, Lisa and her dancers put on a pulse-pounding visual and electrifying performance.

Best known for her appearance on America’s Next Top Model, Lisa has made the successful transition to music working with the likes of super producer/manager Cisco Adler. The model with attitude backs up her sexy image with a sexy sound that is sure to keep people coming back for more. She recently played at this year’s Coachella and you can catch her next Hollywood show September 9th at The Viper Room. Lisa’s new album is due out in the summer of 2009.
Ultraviolet Sound didn’t disappoint either. They surely know how to put on a good show. Their songs are flawless and their new debut record, O.C.D. is one of the best dance albums put out in recent years. Ultraviolet are fast becoming one of L.A.'s hottest bands around. You may have heard or even seen front-woman Sarah Hudson before. She was a guest judge on the first season of BRAVO's Project Runway and she's reportedly Kate Hudson's cousin. OR you've probably read about these guys from one of their biggest fans, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.

Ultraviolet Sound are currently on tour until November. They come back to L.A. when they play The Viper Room on September 9th. That’s gonna be a kick-ass show for sure! And hey! Check this out. Sara Hudson’s song “Girl on the Verge” from her 2004 debut album “Naked Truth” will be featured in the upcoming movie, “The House Bunny,” out August 22nd.
Opening the night was the duo of Lauren Deadly and Chris Deadly, also known as Electric Valentine. You probably also know them as part of the electro-punk group A Kiss Could Be Deadly. The latter was named Alternative Press’ #1 Unsigned Band for 2007 and their album which came out earlier this year has generated rave reviews for their fusion of electronic, dance and pop sounds. Now this is the duo I really wanted to see. Being a fan of A Kiss Could Be Deadly and never being able to catch that band live, I was looking forward to see Lauren and Chris’ new collaboration.

Few bands come out with music as infectious and mesmerizing as Electric Valentine. I dare you not to fall in love with Lauren’s electrifying vocals while Chris pours on more 80’s/synthesized arrangements with beats that are ready-made for the dance floor. If you liked the dance/rock sounds of AKCBD, then you’ll love Electric Valentine. EV is definitely a band to look out for. Their debut EP will be released either late August or early September and will feature their hit single, “A Night With You.” Until then, they’re currently on tour and you can catch them when they return to Hollywood September 4th when they play The Knitting Factory.

MIDNIGHT MOVIES in Rolling Stone!

Here's a band that I still haven't seen. For some reason, everytime they play in town, I have other plans. Bummer. Hopefully they'll play again soon. But until then, Midnight Movies were featured in Rolling Stone's "Breaking Artist" music blog in March. Check it out HERE! It includes an interview and video.
The band's new self-titled EP is on iTunes now, along with their first two albums. Below, I've included a video of Midnight Movies playing an acoustic version of "Patient Eye."
